About The Organizers

Diallo Sumbry is the President and Founder of The Adinkra Group - an African Cultural Resource Company based in Washington, DC.  Diallo has called Washington, DC his home for the past 25+ years, is an avid Backyard Band fan and lover of all things African. Through an African Ancestry DNA test, he traces his maternal roots to the Funali People of modern day Nigeria and paternal roots to the Teke people of modern day Gabon.

The Adinkra Group is an African Cultural Resource Company based in Washington, DC. Our mission is to connect people of African descent with the culture and traditions of Africa through the Arts and Education. We fulfill our mission through the following:

-Ownership and operation of The Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio located in Mt. Rainier, Maryland.

-Management and promotion of Farafina Kan: The Sound of Africa, an intergenerational West African Drum and Dance performing ensemble.

-Production of an annual African drum and dance concert entitled BIRTHRIGHT – a celebration of African Culture through drum, dance and theater arts.

-BIRTHRIGHT MOVEMENT – plan, sponsor and facilitate trips to Africa connecting through cultural immersion, tourism and special projects.

The Back2Africa project is a full partnership between the The Adinkra Group and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
